Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP)

Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) is a multi-sectoral work funded by the World Bank aims to ensure Quality Education, Improvement of Road Connectivity, Sustainable Livelihoods and improvement of service delivery in the 23 Tribal-dominated blocks of Tripura. A special emphasis has been given for the development of 12 aspirational blocks. The project is planned for a duration of six years, with a total cost of USD 175 million (approximately ₹1,400 crore), of which the World Bank is contributing USD 140 million (₹1,120 crore, 80%), and the State Government is contributing USD 35 million (₹280 crore, 20%).

The project is being implemented through the Society for TRESP under the Tribal Welfare Department involving seven Project Implementation Units (PIUs) namely PWD, Secondary Education Department, ARDD, DoIT, Fisheries Department, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department and Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). Besides, the project is being supported by Tripura Space Application Centre (TSAC) and State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development.

The major intervention of the project is on the following four key sectors:

  1. Sustainable Livelihoods
  2. Road Connectivity
  3. Education
  4. Strengthening Institutions for Service Delivery

Sustainable Livelihood

In livelihood sector, an estimated 75,000 households will directly benefit through Livelihood opportunities. A total of 2500 Producer Groups, 61 CLF (Cluster Level Federation) and 23 Community Managed Training Centres will be formed.

Road Connectivity

Under the road connectivity component, 121 roads with a total length of 416 km will be constructed in 12 aspirational blocks. The project also plans to develop a Road Asset Management System and conduct a study for an Integrated Transport Network Development Plan.

Education

Infrastructure will be developed in 16 Schools. School-based Vocational Education and facilities for Strengthening and Learning Environment will be provided in 31 Senior Secondary Schools of Aspirational Blocks. Additionally, the project  aims to improve the quality of school education by building teacher capacity and imparting vocational training to the students in tribal populated dominated areas.

Strengthening Institutions for Service Delivery

The Project will work for strengthening institutions for service delivery through Unified Services & Benefits Delivery Platform- (UNNOTI) so that common citizens can access all the schemes and services of the State Government on a single platform. Support will be given for preparation of improved village development plans. Besides Institutional capacities will also be strengthened.
