Schemes Implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, Govt. of Tripura Educational Sector
Boarding House Stipend
Objectives :
- To provide accommodation to the ST boys and girls in the hostels hailing from remote areas.
- To provide residential facilities to the ST student whose resident is beyond 3 km of the School.
- To reduce the dropout rate.
Scheme Synopsis :
Boarding House Stipend @ Rs. 65/- per day per student (including LPG subsidy, sweeping, cleaning Rs.1/- per day per student) is provided for 322 days (10 months) in an academic year to the students from Class-I to Class-XII who are given accommodation in Govt. run hostel and approved NGO run Boarding Houses.
Eligibility Criteria :
ST boarders reading in Class I to XII. Whose residence is beyond 3 km of the School.
Types of Hostels under Tribal Welfare Department :
- State Govt. run ST Hostels-161 nos. (Boys-100 nos. & Girls-61 nos.)
- TTAADC run ST Hostels - 43 nos.
- TTWREIS run ST Hostels - 8 nos.
- NGO run ST Hostels - 143 nos.
Document required for NGO run hostel :
ST certificate, Ration number, Aadhaar number, Parents mobile number, School admission document/ School Id card, Income certificate.
Inter Hostel Competition
Objectives :
To encourage Tribal students in sports and increase the competition among ST Boarders residing in various Govt. Boarding Houses of the State through various aspects in their educational life. Inter Hostel competition is conducted every year in order to provide them wider exposure and scope for improving skill in the field of games and sports.
Sub-Division Level :
Inter Hostel Games and Sports competition are conducted at Sub-Division level amongst Govt ST Hostels. Good athletes are selected for District level competition.
District Level Competition :
District level competition are organised amongst the athlete selected from various Sub-Division and awarded prize to winners.
Eligibility Criteria :
All ST boarders of Govt. Boarding House.
Additive to Post Matric Scholarship
Objectives :
To provide an additional amount to the hosteller applicant of Post Matric Scholarship.
Scheme Synopsis :
Approved applicant of Post Matric Scholarship who have applied as a hosteller.
Application process :
A dedicated portal will be launched from the FY 2022-23 for applying into the scheme.
Pre-Matric Scholarship (Class-VI to VIII)
Objectives :
To award Scholarship to all ST students reading in Class VI-VIII for encouraging and to support for studies.
Scheme Synopsis :
Scholarship is provided them @ Rs 40/- PM for the students from class VI to VIII for a period of 10 (ten) months in a academic year.
Eligibility Criteria :
All ST students reading in Class VI-VIII.
Application process :
Eligible students with the help concerned school teacher shall apply for the scheme through BMS citizen login.
Document required :
Ration card number, Aadhaar number, Parents mobile number, Mark sheet of previous class, Bank details, ST certificate.
One Time Financial Support (OTFS)
Objectives :
OTFS is provided to economically weaker meritorious ST students in addition to Post-Matric Scholarship for pursuing professional courses.
Scheme Synopsis :
Under this scheme, lump sum financial support of Rs.100000/-(Rupees One lakh) will be provided in 2(two) installment whereas Rs.50000/- to be released as 1st installment immediately after admission and 2nd installment will be paid on production of pass certificate of 1st year course. Students are selected out of the NSP applicant having 50% or more in Class X & XII and admitted to professional courses.
Eligibility Criteria :
To avail this facility, student must be Madhyamik or H.S level passed with at least 50% marks and pursuing in Professional courses having duration not less than 2 years will avail this facility. Family Annual Income of the students shall not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs from all sources.
Application process :
Eligible students shall apply for the scheme through dedicated One Time Financial Support Scheme (twscholarship.com).
Document required :
Post Matric Scholarship registration ID, Ration number, Aadhaar number, Mobile number, 10th Mark sheet, 12th Marksheets, Bank details, ST certificate.
Merit Award to Meritorious students
Objectives :
To give recognition meritorious ST students and to encourage them.
Scheme Synopsis :
The meritorious ST students who have secured 60% and above marks in the Annual Examination from Class VI to IX, XI, Madhyamik/School Final/HSLC Examination and H.S (10+2) Examination from any recognized Board are given cash amount along with a commendation certificate.
Application process :

Pre-Matric Scholarship (IX-X) (Central Sponsored Scheme)
The objective of the scheme is to support parents of ST children for education of their wards studying in classes IX and X so that the incidence of dropout, especially in the transition from elementary to the secondary stage is minimized, and to improve participation of ST children in classes IX and X of the pre-matric stage, so that they perform better and have a better chance of progressing to the post-matric stage of education under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). Scholarship is provided through National Scholarship Portal (NSP 2.0)
Post Matric Scholarship (Central Sponsored Scheme)
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the ST students studying as post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. Post Matric Scholarship is being implemented through NSP Portal.
Scheme Synopsis :
The scholarship includes maintenance allowance, provision for students with disabilities, reimbursement of compulsory. Non-refundable fees, study tour charges, thesis typing/printing charges and book allowance for students perusing correspondence courses, for complete duration of the course.
Sponsoring Students for Job Oriented courses
Objectives :
To support the Poor ST students for pursuing Job oriented Courses. ST students are being sponsored outside and inside the State for undergoing training in GNM, ANM, B.Sc. Nursing & Paramedical, B. Ed and D. El. ED courses etc. The Tribal Welfare Department provides maintenance allowances, tuition fees and expenditure on journey cost.
Eligibility Criteria :
ST students whose family income is less than Rs.2.50 lakhs and students selected on merit basis.
Special Coaching in Core Subject
Objectives :
To give tutorial guidance to the ST boarders attached to the Government run High/Higher Secondary Schools. Coaching in core subjects viz. English, Mathematics & Science subjects are provided to ST Boarders.
Scheme Synopsis :
Under the scheme, tutorial guidance is given to the ST boarders attached to the Government run High/ Higher Secondary Schools reading in Classes VI to XII under Education Department, Government of Tripura. Coaching is given in English, Mathematics & Science subjects for the period of 6 (six) months. The teachers are provided honorarium @ Rs.4, 000/- and Group-D @ Rs. 500/- per month.
Eligibility of tutor :
Govt. teacher/ B.Ed qualified teacher are selected by Sub-Divisional Level Boarding House Committee (SDLBHC).
Madhyamik Drop-out Coaching
Objectives :
To provide coaching to the un-successful Madhyamik ST students who could not succeed due to various reasons of inconveniences.
Scheme Synopsis :
Special coaching is being provided to the Madhyamik failed ST students for a period of 7 (seven) months through NGO run Coaching centres. Stipend @ Rs. 65/- per student per day is provided to the hostellers.
Selection of Coaching centre :
SDLBHC recommend recognised NGOs that have 3 or more years experience and should have 50% and above pass percentage.
Eligibility Criteria of Drop-out students (beneficiaries) :
Unsuccessful Madhyamik ST students from interior Tribal Areas/BPL shall get preference in admission at such coaching centre.
Application Process :
The concerned DM/SDM will collect the list of students from the NGOs (Madhyamik Drop-out Coaching Centre) and send the list to the Directorate of Tribal Welfare.
Coaching & Allied Scheme
Objectives :
To guide ST students for appearing entrance examination of different courses and Competitive examination like Technical, Medical, Judicial Service including TCS/TPS, IAS examinations.
Scheme Synopsis :
Under the scheme, tutorial guidance is given to the ST students who are pursuing in class XII for Joint Entrance and also tutorial guidance is given to the ST unemployed youth who are seeking Government Job.
Eligibility Criteria :
All ST students reading in class XII for Joint Entrance and all unemployed ST youth.
Application Process :
For job oriented coaching eligible unemployed ST youth will apply there application through online portal (www.twcet.gov.in). Eligible candidates are selected based on merit.

Supply of Free Text Books
Objectives :
To provide financial assistance to the tribal students for purchase of text books. To assist the poor tribal parents who have to spent substantial amount in purchasing the books for their children .To provide incentive to tribal boys and girls for curtailing high drop out among these categories.
Scheme Synopsis :
The Financial grant in lieu of textbooks is given to the students of Class IX and above classes. (Class IX-X: Rs.300/-, Class XI: Rs.350/-, Class XII: Rs.400/-, Degree Courses: Rs.500/-).
Eligibility Criteria :
ST students from Class IX to degree Courses
Application Process :
The concerned SDWOs will collect fund requirement from school concern and send a requisition of fund to the Directorate of Tribal Welfare.

Grants to Ashram School
It is a State Govt. Scheme. The objective of the scheme is to meet up the recurring expenditure for Ashram Schools and Residential School run by the TW Department through TTWREIS. This includes staff salaries/wages/stationeries/utility charges/ books & crafts/ students stationeries, uniforms, winter garments, bedding materials, medical aids, remedial coaching classes, etc./ cost of exams/organizing national days & events/ repairing/mtc./ furniture-utensils, up-gradation of infrastructure etc.
There are 3 Ashram Schools viz. at (i) Dakshin Karbook, (ii) Kanchanpur & (iii) Ambassa and 1 Residential School at Bhuratali, Sabroom under the TTWREIS with hostels for boys and girls. The motto for setting up of the school is to increase education among Scheduled Tribes including PVTGs in TSP areas. The Society has been formed since in 1997.
